Irish Society of Gastroenterology

The Irish Society of Gastroenterology is composed of Consultant gastroenterologists and trainees in the specialist field as well as non-medical scientists working in the area of gastrointestinal disease or associated research fields who are mostly located in, or have links with Ireland.

One of the principal aims of the Society is to provide an educational forum for such scientists and members to present clinical and scientific material. It also promotes adequate education and training in gastroenterology at all levels and in particular in the postgraduate areas of general professional training and higher medical training. In addition, it maintains and develops links with international bodies such as the UEGF, OMGE, EASL and the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

ISG is a broadly based organisation and contains within its overall membership Consultant and Trainee Surgeons, Pathologists, Radiologists, Immunologists, Consultant Physicians and many others with an interest in Gastroenterology. Specialist Registrars are automatically members of the Society which also maintains a special relationship with the Irish Society of Endoscopy Nurses as with the Hepatology Nurses Association.

The Society is extremely grateful to AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Schering Plough Corp Ltd and to Abbott Pharmaceuticals Ltd who are our major sponsors for their ongoing support in the provision of bursary funding enabling the Society to help achieve its aims in the provision of continuing medical education.
